After a discussion of their biology,differential secretions and interaction with neurons, the effect ofstress in causing MC degranulation is emphasized. Theimportance of MC in syndromes such as migraine, multiplesclerosis, interstitial cystitis and irritable bowel syndrome isassessed, along with possible therapeutic possibilities withcompounds that inhibit MC activation.
