Many neuropsychiatric diseases still elude full understanding and effective therapy. It has become increasingly obvious that some of the prevailing explanations of their pathology are overly simplistic since only a small fraction of patients appear to be Mast cells were originally considered wandering histiocytes, but are now known to derive from the bone marrow and enter the tissues as immature or precursor ceils which then differentiate under micro-environmental influences such as interleukin-3.
